GROUNDING

I’m guessing that you’ve heard that it’s good to be grounded. What does that even mean? I think of awareness or being connected. I know that personally, I’m easily excitable and my energy can go high very quickly. Staying grounded helps me feel more connected to my body and the earth (otherwise I might get a bit flighty!). I practice grounding and also use essential oils.
The grounding that I’m talking about today is grounding therapy which involves walking barefoot on the ground. It is also referred to as earthing. This is beneficial on so many levels. In our current global coronavirus stress, we need to be connected and grounded as much as possible.
First, it helps to reconnect you electrically to mother earth. The earth is made up of electrical currents just as we are. I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, I LOVED running around barefoot and did it often in the summer. You can STILL do that! It is suggested to spend at least 30 minutes a day of grounding … as long as you don’t have snow and won’t get frostbite!
There haven’t been a lot of studies done on this but even with small studies there have been some fantastic results. I would pay attention to how you FEEL after you do this, it could easily be different for everyone! It can benefit your body, mind and spirit.
People have reported improvements for the following conditions:
- Chronic fatigue
- Chronic pain
- Anxiety and depression
- Sleep disorders
- Cardiovascular disease
- Healing speed
- Less stress/calming
I love grounding because it FEELS good … it’s EASY and it’s FREE! If you currently aren’t able to go to school/work, I imagine that you might have some time on your hands. You can walk/lay on the grass, dirt, sand … which is what I do every morning! You can also use the ocean or a lake/river (sorry, swimming pools don’t cut it). I find that if I’m having a bad or stressful day, after a quick dip in the ocean and I am a new person!
Walking barefoot in your home is not as beneficial because the materials that are used to create the flooring block the electrical currents from the earth. You CAN ground at home with specific grounding products that can be purchased. I have never tried them but I have heard good things about them. They are especially beneficial if you live in a cold climate and want to ground year round.
Have you tried grounding? If so, what was your experience? If not … give it a try. What do you have to lose? Let me know how it goes.
