I believe that all of our challenges in life can be connected back to spirit. COVID-19 is a reflection of how we don’t treat our bodies as the temples that they are. We don’t nourish them with REAL food (especially if you’re in the US, but honestly, this is happening globally), we don’t move our bodies in the way they were meant to be moved, we don’t play and laugh enough as adults and our chronic stress levels are outrageous. We aren’t living in integrity with our own body temple.
I would say the same is true with Black Lives Matter and the systemic racism that is being called out, yet once again. We, as a planet, have been out of alignment and it’s time for us to honor and recognize what we have created and dismantle these systems. It’s TIME, once and for all, to eliminate this. I believe we need to create a new world order that serves and represents each and every one of us.
Even without these two massive global scenarios, I hope that you have a strong and committed spiritual practice. Because of what’s happening in the world, we all need to be at our very best now if we’re going to be part of the solution that this planet and each and every one of us so desperately needs. There are many tools that can be used to assist you in your spiritual quest. A few of the things you might use include sage, palo santo, crystals, incense, prayer beads or essential oils.

Essential oils are a fun and powerful way to add to your spiritual practice. You can diffuse them OR you can apply them topically. As you most likely know, there are so many oils that CAN be used. I’m working on flexing my ‘do not overshare’ muscle and will give you two oils for meditation/prayer and 3 essential oils for yoga. Of course, these are only 2 aspects of a spiritual practice. ANY form of spiritual practice is incredibly important and needed now more than ever.

Let’s start with prayer/meditation. Frankincense can also be called the oil of truth. An oil that invites you to let go of lower vibrations and create a new perspective based on light and truth. It may open spiritual channels and allow you to connect to God/the universe. Frankincense famously goes back in time as one of the gifts that the 3 wise men brought to baby Jesus. The history is long and it is a powerful tool in any spiritual practice. You can apply it on the crown of your head, your forehead/3rd eye or behind your ears. Personally, I love putting a drop on the top of my head before meditation. I envision the oil and its energy falling down through my body, touching each cell on the way to the bottom of my feet.
Sandalwood is the oil of sacred devotion. This essential oil has also been used throughout ancient times. It is known for its ability to help calm the mind, still the heart and prepare the spirit to communicate with God/the universe. It encourages you to let go of attachments and align with your true self and the divine. It teaches true humility, devotion and all encompassing love. You can apply a drop on the crown of your head or your forehead/3rd eye. I don’t know why, but I almost always feel called to put sandalwood on my 3rd eye. I love the intuitive nature of essential oils.

Moving on to the yoga front, doTERRA offers a trio of essential oil blends made specifically for yoga! I LOVE these oils. Sometimes I diffuse them while I’m doing yoga and other times I apply them topically. Of course, my use is not limited to only yoga time … they are fantastic at any time of the day.

Align, the centering blend, helps you to trust yourself and stay open to all possibilities. It encourages harmony and calm, especially when your everyday life gets overwhelming with all of its busyness. On the yoga front, it’s great to put a drop or two over your heart space. It can be very beneficial for poses such as triangle and warrior ll.
Anchor, the steadying blend, can help restore balance and stillness in your life. I must confess that this is my favorite of the three. Both in the scent AND what it does. It’s earthy aroma can help you feel rooted and grounded. My energy can get high and excited, so grounding oils serve me well. You can apply this to the ankles, base of the spine and the bottom of the feet to promote feelings of completeness and calmness. It’s beneficial during seated meditation or seated twist.
Finally we have Arise, the Enlightening blend. This fresh scent is both happy and joyful and will help you to continue to reach higher. If you do morning affirmations, this is an excellent blend to put on your heart to help you face the day with clarity and joy. Standing yoga poses like half moon pair very well with Arise.
As I mentioned earlier, there are SO many oils that could be mentioned here. These are just a few choices that can enhance your spiritual practice (even if you don’t meditate/pray or do yoga!).
